First Aid
First Aid is a vital skill, not just for cadets when out on a remote expedition, but of use in general, day to day life. The Air Cadets aims to teach all their cadets basic first aid, with the option to study further.
Heart Start
Initial First Aid Training is provided to the cadets in the form of Heart Start Award. The award is an initiative coordinated by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to promote and develop Emergency Life Support (ELS)
Youth First Aid
The next step in first aid training is the Youth First Aid Course. The award is valid for 3 years and involves 12 hours of training.
Activity First Aid
The next step in first aid training is the Activity First Aid Course. The award is again valid for 3 years and involves 16 hours of training. It is designed to further develop first aid skills and knowledge, up to the same level as provided by First Aid at Work.
First Aid Instructor
Cadets who are over 16, have completed their Master Cadet or above classification training and hold an Activity First Aid Award are eligible to undergo further training to become a FFirst Aid Instructor.
This award allows cadets to train and assess others in Youth First Aid.
Courses are also run for adult volunteers, allowing them to not only gain first aid qualifications, but also allowing them to instruct first aid to the cadets.
