Cadet Classification Progressive Syllabus
As you'll see in our 2024 Gallery, being a cadet is a lot of fun, but there's a lot of learning involved too.
All cadets progress through classification training, starting in C-Flight where they learn the necessary elements to become a First Class Cadet. After that cadets are expected to pro-actively study for the next class prior to sitting short exams.
Here's how the Classifications work:
First Class Cadet
To become a First Class Cadet all cadets must progress through a First Class workbook and pass a basic Drill assessment. We will teach them the following subjects:
The Air Training Corps
The Royal Air Force
History of Flight
Basic Principles of Airmanship
Map Reading
Initial Expedition Training
Basic Radio Communications
Basic Drill
Leading Cadet
To become a Leading Cadet cadets must proactively study the following subjects prior to passing short exams on each:
Principles of Flight
Airmanship Knowledge
Basic Navigation with Map & Compass
Senior Cadet
To become a Senior Cadet cadets must proactively study any three of the following subjects prior to passing short exams on each:
Aircraft Handling and Flying Techniques
Air Power
Piston Engine Propulsion
Jet Engine Propulsion
Rocketry
Air Frames
Avionics & Aircraft Electrical Systems
Military Aircraft Systems
Air Navigation
Principles of Pilot Navigation
Advanced Radio and Radar
Data Communications
Master Cadet
To become a Master Cadet cadets must be 15 and need to proactively study any three of the following subjects (not used for Senior Cadet) prior to passing short exams on each:
Aircraft Handling and Flying Techniques
Air Power
Piston Engine Propulsion
Jet Engine Propulsion
Rocketry
Air Frames
Avionics & Aircraft Electrical Systems
Military Aircraft Systems
Air Navigation
Principles of Pilot Navigation
Advanced Radio and Radar
Data Communications
Instructor Cadet
To become an Instructor Cadet cadets must attend and pass a Method of Instruction Course then successfully deliver a lesson in a training environment. If successful the cadet is eligible to wear a yellow lanyard indicating their instructor status.
Skills Based Training
In addition to the above classification training, we offer access to skills based training throughout the year. Each subject has a progressive syllabus starting with Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of training.
Cadets can quickly fill their brassard and learn essential life skills if they proactively apply for spots on these camps/sessions.
